Wine and Diamonds

Every single person has been there. Like a weighted blanket that surrounds us and keeps us glued to the couch, there is a feeling that surfaces at the point of wanting to quit.

Sometimes quitting feels like the only way out. The hard aspect of what we’re working on would end if we walk away.

Before you do though, stop here and I want you to buy the vowel and insert an “E.”

When we remove the noise, the challenges, and the chaos for some quiet time, our perspective changes.

In the stillness, ponder these questions:

Will I grow as a result of this hardship or will it break me?

Who will be helped by my continuing in this effort?

What will I do if don’t do this?

Why is this so difficult right now?

Before grapes can be turned into wine, they are crushed. Before you get the diamond, it was formed under extreme temperature and pressure. So before quitting because something is too hard, you want to evaluate if you’re willing to let go of the fine wine or beautiful diamond that is being created in the process of a trial.

The honest thing is to tell you that many times over I have wanted to quit my business. There have been joy-filled moments, and there have been tears because it’s too hard. The answer to the second question in the list above is the reason that I get up and try again.

Looking up and out from my own hardship, I look into the lens of each client who is now on their career path and doing what they are supposed to be doing in this life. And then I see the many people impacted as a result of my decision to keep going. That propels me forward.

The fact of this fallen world is that trials and tribulations will abound, but I love that grace does much more abound. Good always triumphs over evil. And even when it seems like nothing is going “right,” there are still people who need help. Let that be reason enough for us to get up and try again.
